An. Ioannidis studies the term “virtue” based on the biblical and patristic texts of the Church. The writer begins his study with the effect of the Greek and Jewish thought and goes on to the biblical aspect (Christocentric and eschatological analysis). The writer believes that the combination of thought with virtue is achieved through the patristic approach. This combination is indicative of classic and Christian virtues. He also believes, that even though a philosophical method is used by the Holy Fathers, this method is considered as “training” and “aiding”, developing a new patristic virtue system with purely Christian content.
J. Coman presents, in French, through the work of H.I.Marrou, the life and the personality of Saint John Kassianos. This study starts with the citation of the place where Saint Kassianos was born, which is not Syria, neither Constantinople nor Marseille but the cityCasian,North East of Constanta. Kassianos (360-435) lived in Marseille, where he defended Orthodoxy, and wrote many theological works about the organization of monasticism.
Basil Thomas Kontovas makes a systematic registration of all the Greek manuscripts of the Holy Abbey Cheilandariou, as well as its bibliographers. The work continues in the next volume of Kleronomia.
Emmanuel Clapsis presents, in English, a systematic study on the subject of Tradition. The study is interesting and it is a theological contribution in a World Council of Churches conference of the “Faith and Order” Committee. Through the interpretation given by the Church’s Fathers, (Saint Irenaeus, Saint Basil the Great, Ecumenical Councils etc.), the writer concludes that the Church’s doctrines cannot be changed as far as their essence in concerned, but only regarding their interpretation, depending on the place and the time.
Last follows a bibliographic bulletin with interesting books of this period.
