Apostolos Glavinas gives us the service of martyr Michael from Granitsa of Agrafa (20/21 March 1544), which is chanted on Wednesday’s evening and Thursday’s morning, the week after Easter (p. 65-90).

Theocharis Detorakis makes an interesting observation on the 4th Canon of John Damascenes.

Theodoros Zisis studies the problem of Uniatism. This work is a lecture in the Mixed Sub-committee on Uniatism of the dialogue between the Orthodox and the Roman-Catholics (Vienna, 26-31.1.1990).

Sotiris Kadas adds to the manuscript tradition two Greek manuscripts about the narration of monk Ignatius, of the Holy Monastery Akapniou (Dionysius 132.13 and 260.13).

John Kalogirou examines the Christological approach of the sacrament of Marriage.

Jean Karavidopoulos researchesthe publication of the New Testament (1904) by the Ecumenical Patriarchate, pointing out translational difficulties.

George Kordis studies the icon of Saint Trinity byA.Rublev. The subject of the study is the iconographic element (figure) of Abraham and Sarah’s Hospitality, without explaining the symbolisms and their aesthetic.

Gennadios Limouris presents in English in a very interesting way the donations of Holy Spirit. The Martyrs and the witness through martyrdom constitute, according to the writer, a continuation of Holy Spirit’s gifts.

George Mantzaridis studies the role of the Orthodox Christianity in European Union. The historical sensitivity of the orthodox tradition, its diachronic unity and its ecumenical character, can substantially contribute in finding the historical and the intellectual roots of Europe.

Deacon Andreas Nanakis analyzes the historical importance of signing the Convention between the Metropolitan of Crete Eumenios Xiroudakis and Eleutherios Venizelos, as representative of the Cretan State (14.10.1900), for the recognition of the continuation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s right, for the semi-autonomous condition of the Cretan Church according to the model of the local Episcopal Synods (for all the Convention see p. 254-261).

K. N. Papadopoulos studies the Code 1008 of the Greek Library in Athens (114[a]-163[a]) on the “Narration about Josef from Pangalos via verses”.

Panagiotis Skaltsis explores the role of sacramental life in the world and interprets the symbols of the Holy Sacrament of Baptism.

John Fountoulis studies the intellectual contribution of Orthodox Christianity in the European Union.

K.P. Charalampides presents the figure of Good Shepherd, in the composition of paradisiacal staying, as we observe it in the various monuments of cemetery art.

The Statement of the Theological Dialogue Committee between the Orthodox and the Roman-catholic Church can be found in the Chronicles (Phanario, 12.12.1990). Lastly follows a bibliographic bulletin, which presents many books of this period.

This volume refers to the death of Patriarch Dimitrius A' (1991) and also to the election and enthronement of the present Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew A' (2.11.1991).

Evangelia Varella examines the theological presuppositions and the practical applications of Natural Sciences (Alchemy, Astrology, Medicine), according to the scholars of Thessaloniki (11th -15th century).

Christodoulos Bilaras presents elements of the personal research ofCh.Kannengiesseron Athanasios the Great. In particular he presents the life and the theological contribution of Athanassios, emphasising the faith and the aim for which he fought.

Athanasios Kalamatas records old and rare printed documents and liturgical publications of the18th centuryfrom the library of Thessaloniki’s Theological Faculty.

George Mantzaridis studies the relation between secularization and Christianity. Secularization is a consequence of Christianity’s presence and challenges Christianity as a whole (doctrine, worship, ethos, collective spirit).

Nikolaos Matsoukas deals with the question of the two “creations” in the work of Gregory of Nyssa, meaning the creation of the historical human being, man and woman, and the creation of the ideal human being, which was the fulfilment of the entire humanity.

Metropolitan of Sweden Paul Menevisoglou studies the omissions in the publication of The Triodion (Leipzig, 1800).

George Metallinos researches the relation between Apostle Paul and the island of Cephalonia (Acts 27 and 28), according to the theory ofH.Warnecke.

Hubert Mullerpresents, in German, the theological differences between the West and the East concerning the canon law and the divine economy.

AntoinePapadopoulos develops in Italian the synodical institution, its charismatic and unifying character. The text was a lecture in Bari, Italy (17.12.1991).

Metropolitan of Elioupolis and Theia and Athanassios Papas studies the historical and theological explanation of old icons burning, on the Friday of the Holy Unction (at Phanari).

Basil Stavridis describes the institution of offices or dignities of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and adds the relevant Services and bibliography as well.

Metropolitanof Sylivria Emilianosin his work, a lecture in Romania (21.10.1991), answers to the question for the necessity of a liturgical renewal. John Fountoulis studies the possibilities and the obstacles of a liturgical renewal as well. There is also a similar work regarding the Orthodox Church of Saint Thomas (India) by Shanti Verghese.

In the Chronicles there is the historical Message of the Orthodox Churches (Phanari, 13-15.3.1992) followed by a bibliographic bulletin which presents many books of this period.

E.A.Varella analyzes, in German, the work of Michael Psellos on Natural Sciences.

There is a lot of material from the activities of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the Chronicles while the bibliographic bulletin includes many books of this period.

This issue also contains a tribute on Saint Photios with four essays (p. 9-154).

G. Vergiotis presents the pedagogical concepts of Klimis of Alexandria, the foremost Christian philosopher, in his work “Pedagogue”. Klimis passes from confession to a philosophical theory of Christianity. This work is practical, oriented towards practical life and moral education through which the soul sees the weaknesses of humans.

Ath. Theocharis investigates the philological problem of the epistle to Colossians (1: 15-20), a Christological text which he examines for its authenticity.

Ioannis Kalogirou studies the holy Sacrament of Marriage in relation to the number of the seven sacraments. It is a theological study of Marriage as incorporation of the new couple in the Eucharistic community, introducing the institution of marriage into the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.

Georgios Mantzaridis explores an important issue of interpreting the ecological problem from an Orthodox point of view. The study is marked by three important points: a) selfless love, b) ascetic spirit and c) the Eucharistic view of the world.

His Eminence the Metropolitan of Ilioupolis Athanasios studies a liturgical text by the Ecumenical Patriarch Maximus E’ (1946-1948), written in 1961 and preserved by his student (current Metropolitan of Karpathos and Kasos Amvrosios).

Ioannis Fountoulis presents thoughts on the feast day of the divine Tranfiguration of the Lord with an emphasis on the figure of the Pantokrator Christ.

In the Chronicles there is a record of the visit of the Archbishop of Canterbury and Primate of all England Dr. George Carrey and a record of the 7th General Assembly of the World Council of Churches (Canberra, Australia, 7-20.2.1991). In the end follows an extensive book presentation section, with books of the period.
